Sand Spikers Open With a Split at Mt SAC
Cuesta Women's Beach Volleyball opened its third season last Saturday with a doubleheader at Mt San Antonio College in Walnut.  The Cougars gave the host Mounties, who reached the playoffs as the #6-seed in the South, all they could, including a pair of three-set losses, before falling, 3-2, against their hosts.  Cuesta bounced back in the nightcap by sweeping all five matches from El Camino.  On the day, the Cougars were led by all-WSC Outside Hitter Cayley Brown and fellow Sophomore Brynn Bennett, who won a pair of matches at the #1 spot.  Bennett spent most last season at the #2 spot, but after redshirting during the indoor season, she joined Brown in the sand.  Brown stepped right into the action fresh off a dominant indoor season, including a full attack on the Cougars' record book.  Brown ended her indoor career among the Cougars' Top 10 for Service Aces (#1- 131), Kills (#3- 565) and Digs (#9- 488).  Sophomore Hanne Porter and her Rookie partner Elizabeth Trimble also picked up a pair of wins on opening day, while playing in the #3-spot.  Like Bennett and Brown, Porter stepped right off the hardcourt onto the sand, while Trimble, a freshman from Arroyo Grande, opted to start her season on the beach.  The duo earned both of their wins the hard way, with three set matches against both the Mounties and Warriors.  The Cougars overall are 1-1 on the season as a team
.
The Cougars are back on the road in Santa Cruz on Friday this weekend for another twinbill .  The Cougars open against host Cabrillo (Noon), before playing San Mateo (2 PM)
