Cuesta Baseball returned to its Western State Conference schedule, after taking last week off for the Cuesta/Hancock Spring Break Tournament.  The Cougars are set to play three games against Los Angeles Pierce this week and opened the series in today in San Luis Obispo.  After a scoreless first inning, Pierce scored twice in the second inning, while the Cougars cut that lead in half during their first turn at the plate, 2-1.  Both teams exploded with big third innings but remained tied.  The Brahmas tacked up five runs to take a 7-1 lead, but the Cougars answered with six runs on six hits to knot the game at 7-7.  Pierce retook the lead on a 4th inning Balk and was still clinging to a one-run lead going into the 9th inning.   The Brahmas took advantage of a Cuesta error and pair of walks and put the game out of reach with four runs, while the Cougars went down in order in the bottom of the 9th, 13-8.  The "right side of the Cougars on offense, as both First Baseman Sean Rivas and Second Sacker Jarom Damery each collected two hits on the day and combined to represent half of the Cougars' offensive output.  The setback dropped the Cougars to 16-13 overall and 8-5 in WSC play.

 

The Cougars and Brahmas shall continue the series in Woodland Hills on Thursday (2 PM), before closing the week back in SLO on Saturday (1 PM).
