Cuesta shall host a pair of Western State Conference Doubleheaders this week with games on both Wednesday and Saturday. The men shall be hosting Ventura on Wednesday (7 PM) and Los Angeles Pierce on Saturday (5 PM). Both games shall be preceded by a women's game (5 & 3 PM). The visiting Pirates have won more WSC Crowns than any other school in the circuit, but Cuesta ranks second, with all eleven of the Cougars' titles coming since 1996 under current Head Coach Rusty Blair. The Bucs once tried to lure Coach Blair away from San Luis Obispo, but he remained loyal to his hometown team and a thorn in the Pirates' side. Ventura is 8-10 on the season and has split their first two WSC games, while Cuesta is 12-7 overall and 1-2 against the circuit. On Saturday, the men shall host Los Angeles Pierce. The Brahmas have enjoyed a resurgent season. After winning only eight games over the past two campaigns, the Bulls are currently undefeated against the conference (2-0), by beating both Allan Hancock and Santa Barbara, however they are just 9-9 overall.
Last Saturday, Cuesta dropped a game, 64-60, to a vastly improved Oxnard team, which is currently atop the WSC Loop with a 2-0 mark and, at 10-4 overall. The Condors are enjoying their first double-digit win season since 2016, when they claimed 11 contests. In their win over the Cougars the game was tied with both teams boasting 60 points on the scoreboard with just over a minute to play. The Condors made a pair of free throws to take the lead and held on for the victory as the Cougars' last three efforts missed their mark. Cuesta is 12-7 overall and just 1-2 in Western State Conference play.
