Cuesta Men's Basketball came out slow against #8 Sequoias in the final game Cuesta College's 56th Hinson's Tire Pros Tournament. The visiting Giants commanded a dominating lead, 44-19, at the intermission, but the Cougars battled back and nearly doubled their total in the second half with 34 points. Unfortunately, Sequoias also benefitted with a second half surge and completed the tournament finale with in over the host Cougars, 94-53. On offense, the Giant Kion Hayes led all scorers with 23 points in the game, while returning all-WSC Guard Corbin Rossi (Pict) paced Cuesta with 16 points, while fellow returner Ryan McNamee, with 14 points, was the only other Cougar to score in double-digits. Forward Jakai Tutler tied Rossi with a team-high five rebounds, while Guard Aiden Pearsall-Morgan led the team with three assists. The Cougars are currently 0-3 on the season.
The Cuesta Cagers are back on the road next week for a trio of games in Northern California. The Cougars open the week at Foothill on Wednesday (5 PM), before playing in San Mateo's Lazy Dog Fall Classic on Friday and Saturday. Cuesta is scheduled to play the host Bulldogs on Friday (6 PM) and square-up against San Joaquin Delta on Saturday (1 PM).
