Cougars' Cagers Open Conference Play Against Rival Bulldogs
Cuesta Men's and Women's Basketball open their 2026 Western State Conference Schedule with a men's and women's doubleheader this Saturday (1/3 PM) at Cuesta College's Stork Gym.  Cuesta's men's and women's teams are both coming off playoff seasons in 2025 and are looking to end their conference title draughts on their way back to the post-season.

The men's team, under the program's first-year Coach Jamoni Barber, overcame a 0-6 start and finished their pre-conference schedule with a respectable 5-11 record.  The Cougars boast three players scoring in double-digits, led by Point Guard Aiden Pearsall-Morgan (pict-L).  Pearsall-Morgan paces the Cougars' scoring at 13.3 points per game, while also leading the teams with 3.7 assists and 1.2 steals per contest.  Returning Foward Ryan McNamee has added more than 10 points to his rookie season scoring average and, at 6-8, adds offense punch to the Cougars' frontline.  All-WSC Guard Corbin Rossi joins McNamee as the only holdovers from last season and fills in a lot of the gaps.  He leads the team in blocks per game and is second in steals, while also among the team's top three in scoring, rebounds and assists.

The women's team continues its steady progress under Coach Casey Blair, who led the Cougars to another playoff berth last season, while posting the Cougars highest win total (17) since 2015.  His Cougars held strong through a tough preseason schedule and enter conference play with a 9-7 record.  Sophomore Forward Fiona Durham (pict-R). has taken a leadership role on the floor this season and leads the team on both ends of the Cougars.  She leads the team with 13.4 points and is second on the team 2.5 assists per game on offense but has also been a terror on the defensive end, where she paces the Cougars with 1.8 steals and 1.3 blocks per game.  Point Guard Alyssa Gonzalez and Forward Jennifer Stambaugh join Durham in lighting up the scoreboard with 10.7 and 10.1 points per game, respectively, while Center Kinzie Amer fills in the blanks.  Amer leads the team with 3.3 assists per game and is second on the team with 7.8 rebounds per game.  Forward Jennifer Stambaugh(10.7) and Guard Alyssa Gonzalez (10.1) join Durham as the only other Cougars scoring double-digits nightly.
