Cuesta Men's and Women's Basketball will host Santa Barbara City for a Western State Conference for men's and women's doubleheader this Wednesday. The men shall tip-off at 5 PM, while the women are scheduled to play at 7 PM. The Cougars meeting against the Vaqueros shall complete the men's first swing through the conference, however, in addition to the second round, the women's team will have to find a time to make-up last Saturday's cancelled game at LA Mission.
Last Saturday, while the women missed out on their game against the Eagles, the men were a few miles away at Los Angeles Pierce picking up another victory. The Cougars needed overtime to beat the Brahmas, 82-78, as the team improved to 7-14 on the season. Point Guard Aiden Pearsall-Morgan joined all-WSC Guard Corbin Rossi as they posted a team-high with 14 points, while Guard James Nugent and Foward Ryan McNamee were right behind them with 13 points apiece. Rossi and McNamee, who are the Cougars' only returning players from the Cougars' 2025 campaign, got a chance to compete against three of their former teammates in Woodland Hills. Former Cuesta players Matvey Krepak, Nicolai Stanic and Tom Hinson all joined the Brahmas after the retirement, and then passing, of CCCAA Hall of Fame Coach Rusty Blair. The Cougars, who began the season with seven straight losses are now 7-14 overall, plus a solid 2-3 in the WSC.
Coach Jamoni Barber, who is the Cougars' fourth head coach since 1965, has matched a school record by leading his squad to its seventh win of the season. Barber's victory in Woodland Hills tied Mike Mohler's inaugural season mark of seven wins in 1992, his first and only season with the Cougars. Barber and his squad are expected to set a new mark for the Cougars over the remainder of the season. The Cougars have already picked up two wins in their first swing through the WSC Circuit and have seven more games against the loop.
