In 2003 the Cuesta Athletic Department instituted its first true Athlete of the Year Award. The coaching staff was encouraged to nominate their best athlete, and a committee was created to weigh performance athletic as the highest criteria. Today Cuesta announced its Outstanding Athletes of the Year for the twenty-fourth time and the second to honor co-Male Athletes of the Year
Two-time State Swimmer of the Year
Grant Huston enjoyed, authored the greatest season of swimming at Cuesta College and capped his campaign with his second MVP performance at the CCCAA State Championship Meet. Huston currently holds the Cuesta record in 17 of 18 swimming events and was also the overall 3C2A State Leader in dozen events and Top 3 in four more. In 2025, Huston earned his state titles in the three most completive events; 50,100 and 200-freestyles, however. in a show of both dominance and versatility, he entered chose to enter the three individual medley events this season. Huston won the 100, 200 and 400-medleys, all in State Record times, in a display of endurance, speed, versatility and unquestioned dominance. The two-time 3C2A State Swimmer of the Year, six-time individual State Champion, six-time State Record Holder, 17-time Cuesta Record Holder, can also claim being the Cuesta Athletics' first two-time Outstanding Athlete of the Year.
In addition to his prowess in the lanes, Huston was also selected to the 2025 All-Western State Conference First Team, while helping lead Cuesta Men's Water to second place in the WSC and to the programs 46th consecutive playoff berth. Huston led the team with 49 steals and was second on the team with 55 assists, while also netting 51 goals on his own.
Cuesta Men's Swim & Dive earned their 6th consecutive Western State Conference title, while posting its 5th straight Top 10 State Finish and the programs since 20th since 1990.
