Cuesta Softball has not played in SLO County since the first week of February but host a pair of Western State Conference games on campus this week. The Cougars open the week with Oxnard on Tuesday (2 PM), before hosting local rival Allan Hancock on Thursday (2 PM). The Cougars, who missed an automatic playoff berth by one game last season, entered conference play against a wide open WSC Circuit, in which all seven teams, currently, carry a losing record. The Cougars are joined by all their fellow WSC teams as they are all slotted between the 25th and 42nd spot on the latest SoCal Regional RPI (Rating Points Index).
The Cougars opened WSC play last Thursday against Moorpark, 15-7 in five innings of play. The Cougars also split a non-conference doubleheader at Citrus on Friday. The Cougars took the opener, 16-11, but the Fighting Owls closed with a win, 9-7, in the nightcap, while the Cougars had the winning run at the plate. The Cougars are 6-16 on the season and 0-1 against the WSC.
