Cuesta Women's Basketball hosted Foothill College in Los Altos for their 2025-26 season debut. The Cougars opened the season with a dominant first quarter against the Fighting Owls, 28-10. Cuesta's defense was stifling all evening and allowed Foothill only 21 more points over the last three quarters. On offense, Returning Forward Fiona Durham (pict) scored a game-high 25 points on 10-of-12 shooting, while also leading her team in blocks and steals. Freshmen Forwards Jennifer Stambaugh and Sophia Porter also shined in their collegiate debuts. Stambaugh, with 13 points, was the only other Cougar to score in double-digits and also grabbed seven rebounds, while Porter posted game-highs with 12 rebounds and four assists, to go with six points of her own. Cuesta, which has reached the post-season in each of the past two seasons, is 1-0 on the season and has claimed its third straight season opener.
The Cougars return to action when they head up to Salinas next Wednesday (6 PM) to face Hartnell and kick-off a three-game road trip crisscrossing the state. After playing the Panthers, Cuesta shall travel to Santa Monica on Saturday, before heading to College of the Sequoias in Visalia for a Veteran's Day match-up. The Cougars will be back in SLO for their home tournament on November 13-14.
