Cuesta Women's Basketball completed its pre-conference schedule with a victory over visiting College of the Siskiyous, 84-52. The Cougars' offense was slow to start, with only 13 points in the first quarter, but caught fire over the last three quarters. Cuesta poured in 71 more points before the final buzzer, while netting a team season-high 84 points; additionally, their scoring total over the last three quarters would have tied for their third highest, over a full game, on the season. Sophomore Morgan McElhenie (pict) came off the bench to net a career-best with 18 points, including five three-pointers in the game. Freshmen Guards Alyssa Gonzalez and Charlotte Hasson joined McElhenie around the arch and each drained a quartet of triples, while scoring 18 and 14 points, respectively. On the night, the Cougars collected 39 of their 84 points from beyond the arch. The Cougars' win helped them wrap up their pre-conference schedule with a 9-7 record. Last week, the Cougars were also 35th in the voting of the 3C2A's opening State Poll, additionally they were also 19th among the Southern Regional teams, which makes them a favorite to return to the 3C2A Regional Playoffs for the third straight season.
The Cougars shall be on hiatus for the rest of the month and do not return to the hardwood until January 10, when they host local rival Allan Hancock to open Western State Conference play with a men's and women's doubleheader. This year, the men (1 PM) shall lead-off each WSC Twinbill, while the women take top billing in the nightcap (3 PM).
