Cuesta Women's Basketball opened its second swing through the Western State Conference on a high note, earning a decisive road win against local rival Allan Hancock, 62-39, on Wednesday. The Cougars also hosted #6 Moorpark tonight, and the Raiders jumped out to a 15-point lead in the first quarter. Despite the COugars' pressure, the Raiders did not slow down before the final buzzer, 64-33 despite a team-high 13 points from Cuesta Forward Kinzie Amer. The Cougars entered WSC play with a respectable 9-7 record but have gone 1-7 against the circuit. The Cougars' roster, due to injuries and other mishaps, has dwindled down to seven players as they battle through one of the toughest conferences in the State. The Cougars, who are currently 10-14 overall, have reached the playoffs in each of the past two seasons and will need a strong finish to continue that streak. Cuesta is currently 31st in the South Region's Rating Point Index, a major factor in seeding, however only 24 teams will advance to the playoffs.
The Cougars are back on the road to face Oxnard next Wednesday (7 PM) and return home to host #16 Ventura on Saturday (3 PM). The Cougars have already defeated the Condors twice this season, including a game in Oxnard during the first round of WSC Play. On the other end of the standing, Ventura is currently undefeated in WSC play. Both games shall be part of a WSC men's and women's doubleheader.
