Returning State Qualifier Grant Eklund dominated the competition over Cuesta three-day road trip last week. Eklund, wrestling in the 165 division, opened the week with dual meet wins at Bakersfield and Chabot on Thursday and Friday, respectively. On Saturday, he led the Cougars to 4th place at the Modesto Tournament, while sweeping his division with a sparkling 3-0 record. Eklund is currently 8-0 on the season but has also made his way up the Cougars leader boards, including taking an all-time top spot. After last weekend, he now has 45 career wins and moved into 8th place on the Cougars' leader board, but still is18 wins behind Michael Williams' mark set in 2006. However, his 86.5 career winning-percentage (minimum two years and 30 matches) is now the Cuesta standard, after edging past former State Champion Dan Martinez's turn-of the century mark of .840 (42-8)
Eklund and the Cougars are back on the mats this Saturday (All Day) at the Southern Dual Tournament in Walnut at Mt San Antonio College.
