Cuesta Co-Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year
PRESTON SCHARF
In 2003 the Cuesta Athletic Department instituted its first true Athlete of the Year Award. The coaching staff was encouraged to nominate their best athlete, and a committee was created to weigh performance athletic as the highest criteria. Today Cuesta announced its Outstanding Athletes of the Year for the twenty-fourth time and the second to honor co-Male Athletes of the Year
2025 3C2A Wrestler of the Year
Preston Scharf enjoyed a near perfect sophomore campaign as he drove himself to an individual State Title. Scharf was also the Cougars' MVP in 2025, when he earned All American honors as a State Runner-up, but he was on a mission this season. He did not take a loss until the Cougars' travelled to the Menlo College Tournament in November. His teammates were also on board with, what Coach Joe Dansby calls "Vision Cuesta" as the Cougars qualified nine wrestlers for 2025 3C2A State Championships and obliterated the program's previous record (297) for victories with 319 triumphs. Scharf led the way for the team as he battled his way back to the State Title match. He also had the camaraderie of four of the Cougars Top 7 winningest wrestlers in the room with him, including current record holder and teammate
Grant Eklund (67). Scharf's closed his with 63 career, with all his time in the title bracket, he was able to produce the program's best career winning percentage at 91.3% (min. 2 yrs, 30 bouts).
The Cougars finished in 3rd place in the SouthEast Conference and finished the season in 8th at the 2025 3C2A State Championships.
