Kickers Shutout Lemoore for Coach Johnson's First Win, 3-0

Cuesta Women's Soccer picked up its first win of the 2025 campaign in Lemoore on Friday with a 3-0 blanking of the host Eagles.  The Cougars had been creeping towards the win column over the past two weeks by narrowing the margins in each of the first three matches from three to two to a one-goal difference, before doubled their season scoring total during Friday's triumph. Freshman Midfielder Susana Puentes gave the Cougars the early lead in the 8th minute and Cuesta defended that narrow margin until Hailey Westcott and Derby Coykendall set up Natalie Hewitt for the clincher with just 15 minutes left in regulation.  Coykendall confirmed the victory with a solo goal of her own in extra time to complete the win, 3-0.  In the nets, Freshman Julianna Rosa went the distance and, with the help of the Cougars' stalwart defense, recorded her first career shutout.  The victory also marked their initial victory under Cuesta Head Coach Paige Johnson, who joined the program this Fall as the program's third head coach since its founding in 1995.  The Cougars are now 1-3 on the season.

Cuesta Women's Soccer remains on the road this week for the squad's first visit to the 3C2A's Southern Region, before returning to SLO to finish the week at home.  Cuesta travels to Valley Glen on Tuesday (4 PM) to face Los Angeles Valley College.  The Monarchs, like the Cougars, are also members of the Western State Conference, but compete in the WSC's South Division.  On Saturday (2 PM), Cuesta is back on their home pitch to host the Skyline Trojans out of San Bruno.  The match marks the squad's final non-conference contest of the regular season.  Cuesta opens WSC-North place on Friday (4 PM), September 26, when Los Angeles Pierce visits the Central Coast.
