Women's Soccer Falls to Moorpark, 1-0, in Defensive Battle
Cuesta Women's Soccer played 2024 Playoff Qualifier Moorpark to a standstill for 78 minutes, before the Raiders netted the contest's only goal.  The loss dropped the Cougars to 2-8 on the season and 1-4 in Western State Conference play, but the Cougars, behind new Head Coach Paige Johnson, are improving quickly and should soon be putting pressure on the teams at the top of the WSC Standings.

One of the early bright spots for Cuesta has been the team's defense.  The Cougars, after allowing a dozen goals in their first five games, have been locking up teams in the elite WSC-North Division; a circuit which sent more than half of its members to the playoffs last season. Cuesta has allowed only seven goals in their first five games against the WSC-North.    Overall, Cuesta's defense is allowing only 1.9 goals per game, which is nearly half of the program's 2024 average of 3.6 goals per game. If the Cougars' stalwart defense continues its stand for the season, it would mark the lowest scoring average for a Cuesta team since the 2019 playoff team (1.41 GAA).

Cuesta is on the road to Santa Maria this Friday (4 PM) for a match against local WSC rival Allan Hancock.  The Cougars have mostly dominated the Bulldogs over their long history, but the Bulldogs have won the last six meetings, including two forfeits in the Cougars' abandoned 2022 campaign.  The Cougars' last victory, 2-1, over their rivals was on November 2, 2021, which secured founding Coach Bob Wilson's 243rd and final victory.
