Cuesta Men's Swimming continues to roll with its third win in four tries, while the women took 5th, despite not winning an individual event. 2025 Cuesta Athlete of the Year Grant Huston continued his dominance with five new Cuesta records, which boosts his total to 16 school records among the program's 18 individual events. The Cougars also received a record setting performance from Freshman Zach Pechan in the 50-backstroke, which leaves him and 2014 Cuesta College Athlete of the Year Georan Meendering (100-backstroke) as the only other men's record holders on the board. The men's team posted 982 points over the weekend to win the meet, while NorCal powerhouse American River, with 898 points, trailed by 100 points and and Mt San Antonio, who beat Cuesta at Mt SAC last week, took the team Bronze with 737.5 points.
Cuesta's women finished 5th overall with 401 points, despite being in the only team among the Top 13 of the 22 team not to have a swimmer win, place or show in any events. The Cougars powered out Top 10 finishes all weekend, but never made the medal stand. 2025 All American Annika Pauschek led the way for the Cougars with a 4th place finish in the 50-backstroke (:30.66), whil also adding 5th place in the 200-freestyle (2:06.71) and 6th in the 200-backstroke (2:21.41). Freshman Evangeline Brown added another 5th place finish in the 50-Butterfly (:29.25), while Diver Kelly Churchill took 5th off the high-dive with 133.90 points.
The Cougars are back in action this Friday (11:30) with their second, of three, Western State Conference Mini Meet at College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita.
