Cuesta Track & Field Opens at Moorpark Hep/Dec
Cuesta Track & Field opened the 2026 season in Moorpark with the teams' multi-event competitors putting their talents on display.  The women were led by 2025 CCCAA State Finalists Kristy Huynh and Mia Martin, while newcomers Matthew Taylor and Benjamin Schneider represented the men's program in the Decathlon.

Martin and Huynh were versatile scorers for the Cougars last season and have expanded their portfolio as heptathletes this season. Huynh finished 3rd in the competition with 3,406 points, while Martin landed in 5th place with 3,281 points.  Their scores also earned them a spot on the Cougars' all-time Top 10 for Heptathlon in the 8th and 9th spots, respectively.  Martin already owned marks at 7th all time at Cuesta in both the High Jump (5' 3") and 100 Hurdles (:16.21).  She also finished 7th in the High Jump at the 2025 CCCAA State Meet.  Huynh finished 10th in the State for Javelin and also holds a Cuesta all-time Top 10 mark for the Triple Jump (34-10.5).

Freshman Matthew Taylor was impressive in his first collegiate competition and took 5th place overall with 4,369 points.  Taylor, who did not finish lower than 8th place in any discipline, shined while winning both the Pole Vault (12' 3.5") and Long Jump (21' 10.25"), while also taking the Bronze in the Discus (84' 6").  Schneider returned to action after an injury shutdown his freshman season but immediately returned to the injured reserve after the meet opening 100-meter run.

Cuesta's Multi-Event athletes shall join the rest of the Cougars' Track & Field athletes for the Lobo Invitational in Monterey on February 14.
