Track & Field Preps for the Westmont Open and Beyond
Cuesta Men's and Women's Track and Field travels to Santa Barbara this Saturday to compete in the Westmont Open.  The trip marks the closing of the regular season and the beginning of the Cougars' Championship events.  The Cougars will also host the 3C2A Multi-Event Regional Meet on campus next Tuesday and Wednesday.

Last week, the Cougars squeezed in two meets.  On Friday, the squad was in Ventura for the Western State Conference North Meet.  The women took the team title, while the men took 3rd in the five-team event.  The Cougars came home for more action at Cal Poly's Mark Conover Invitational, where the men finished 6th among the 14 teams and the women finished 4th out of 13.

The Women's team posted eight new team season-high, including Nevaeh Dyer breaking Lara Newell's 1993 Cuesta Shot Put record with a toss of 45-1.5.  Dyer was joined by teammates Bella Teresi (44-2) and Kiera Taylor (39-10.5), who also cracked the Top 10 for the event.  Teresi also added new Cuesta Top 10 marks in the Hammer (126-1), while Kristy Huynh earned a Cuesta Top 10 mark in the Javelin (127-5).  On the track, Kennedy McAdoo (pict) moved into 3rd all-time at Cuesta in the 400-meters with a time of :57.16, which leaves her 1.22 seconds off Gwyndolyn Katics's record set last season.  In the Hurdles, Freshman Riley Passanisi moved up to 6th all-time in the 100-hurdles, while teammate Samantha Duran, who already ranks 8th all-time in the 100 hurdles (:16.00), dropped her 400-hurdle mark to 6th all-time at 1:08.86.

On the men's side. Sophomore Alex Oldham enjoyed a big weekend with three new season standards for the Cougars.  On the track, he finished the 400-meters in :50.82, before clearing the 400-hurdles in :56.24.   Oldham, also holds the Cougars season mark in the 200-meters, also took to the skies to post a team season-best 6-0.75 in the High Jump.  Two-time State Cross Country Champion Weston Greenelsh posted new season-best times in the 800 and 1,500-meters, including a trip to the top of the podium in the 800.  However, the other new Cuesta all-Time Marks for the men's team came from Sophomore Anthony Frere and Freshman Zayne Ellison.  Frere made his second big drop of the season in the 800-meters and jumped four spots in the Top 10.  He now ranks 4th all time (1:53.78), directly behind Greenelsh.  Ellison soared 23' 2.5" to move into 6th place all time for the event.
