Cuesta Hosts, While Huynh and Taylor Compete in the Regional HepDec
Cuesta Track & Field hosted the 2026 3C2A Regional Multi-Event Championships the past Tuesday and Wednesday.   The women fielded 16 competitors from 10 schools, while the men boasted 19 Decathletes from 10 schools The Cougars entered Heptathlete Kristy Huynh and Decathlete Matthew Taylor in the Decathlon to compete on their home track.

Huynh won two of the seven events, by posting the top marks for both the Shot Put (31-1.5) and Javelin (127-7) but finished 8th overall with 3,676 points and missed qualifying for the State Meet by two places and 85 points.  Her did not earn her a ticket to State, but did move into the 6th spot all-time for the Cougars, while her winning throw in the Javelin landed her in 4th place in the Cougars all-Time Top 10 and her overall point total garnered her the 6th spot on the Cougars' all-Time Top 10.

Taylor started the competition slowly and did not break into the Top 10 in any of the track events, before bursting back into competition.  He, literally, vaulted back into contention with a Silver and a Cuesta season-best mark in the Pole Vault (13-3.5). He followed that up with 8th in the Long Jump and another Top 10 mark in the Discus.
The Cougars expect both Huynh, who finished 10th in the Javelin at the 2025 State Meet, and Taylor to both be part of the Cougars 2026 State Meet delegation in May.
