Cuesta Men's and Women's Track & Field split their squad, again, last weekend, as the Cougars prepared for their upcoming month-long championship schedule. Ther Cougars sent part of their team to the Moorpark Open on Friday, while others travelled to San Francisco for two days of the Mike Fanelli Open.
The men's team was led by Sprinter Alex Oldham, who enjoyed a break-out day with two Cuesta Top 10 marks. Oldham ran the 4th fastest 100-meter time in Cuesta history, after finishing the stretch in :10.66, which left him on-hundredth of a second all-time, behind Henry Jenkins and Jason Heard (:10.65) and in range of Ron Clifton's 48-year-old Cuesta standard of :10.51. Additionally, but less spectacularly, Oldham also gained the 10th and final spot for the 200-meters with a time of :22.31. The men's team, as it enters the championship season, has already posted seven new Cuesta Top 10 marks this year.
The women's team boasts 11 new Cuesta Top 10 marks, including three last week. Sprinter Kennedy Mcadoo owns three of those marks and pushed her 100-meter mark up to 3rd all-time by crossing the line :12.29 last week. In addition, Hurdler Riley Passanisi also moved up in the lanes and is currently 6th all-time at Cuesta for the 100-hurdles (:15.42). She also posted a team-season best mark of 16' 8.75" in the Long Jump, which is exactly two inches short of the Top 10. In the throws, Bella Teresi posted two personal best marks. She moved into 8th all-time at Cuesta in the Hammer (131-3) and hit a personal-best in the Hammer (118-3)
Apart from the multi-sport athletes, who began their drive to the 3C2A State Championships at the end of March, the rest of the state's track and field hopefuls shall begin their drive to the championships at their respective conference championship meets. The conference preliminary meets begin next Friday (April 17), when the Cougars travel to the College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita. The elite competitors will push onto the final day of the 2026 3C2A State Championships, which is May 16 at Mt San Antonio College in Walnut.
