Cuesta Women's Track and Field enters the fourth week of the championship gauntlet. This week marks the final elimination round before the "Big Dance." The Cougars have qualified eight women for a dozen events at this weekend's 2026 Southern California Regional Finals this Saturday in Bakersfield. The Cougars are led by all-State Thrower Kiera Taylor and fellow 2025 State Place Winners Kristy Huynh and Mia Martin. Taylor earned all-State in the Discus last season and will be joined by Freshman Bella Teresi in the Hammer. Teresi is also part of the Cougars' "Shot Squad" and will join Huynh and Nevaeh Dyer in the Shot Put. Dyer owns the Cuesta Record (45' 1.5"), while Teresi and Taylor also rank in the Top 10. Huynh and fellow 2025 State Qualifier Mia Martin began the season as aspiring Heptathletes but have narrowed their focus on their specialties for the championship meets. Huynh is a contender in the Javelin, after finishing 10th in the State as a freshman, and will join Martin in the High Jump. On the track, Harriers Rebekah Waterbury and Isabella Efner both earned all-WSC honors as they led the Cuesta to 17th place at the 3C2A State Cross Country Championships in the Fall. They shall put their distance training to use this weekend as they push themselves to the next level in the 5,000-meters. Hurdler Riley Passanisi will join them in the lanes as a contender in the 100-hurdles. She already ranks 3rd (:15.06) all time at Cuesta.
The 2026 3C2A State Championships are scheduled for May 15 and 16 at Mt San Antonio in Walnut.
