Spikers Sweep West LA in Final Pre-Conference Match, 3-0

Spikers Sweep West LA in Final Pre-Conference Match, 3-0
Cuesta Women's Volleyball hosted West Los Angeles for their final non-WSC North Division match.  The Wildcats are also members of the WSC (Western State Conference) but are members of the circuit's South Division.  The Cougars set the tone early against their fellow feline foes, by scoring first and never trailing.  The Wildcats hung close early in the first set, but, after scoring their 10th point and jumping out to a three-point lead, Cuesta never looked back.  The Cougars 15 of the next 18 points to take the first set, 25-10.  The second set was more of the same, as the Cougars rolled out to a 10-1 lead, before taking control of the match by winning their second set, 25-9.  Cuesta kept rolling as they chased a sweep by scoring the first six points of the third set, but the Wildcats rallied to extend their time in SLO.  The Cougars completed the sweep (25-10, 25-9, 25-15), but not before West LA made a statement with a match-high 15 points to ease their trip home.  Cuesta Coach Whitney Meyer said of her team's victory, "It was a great team effort.  It was nice to get the first set win, we came out strong and it was nice to get the sweep."  The victory sends the Cougars into their WSC-North Division schedule with a record of 8-5.

Cuesta Women's Volleyball opens Western State Conference North Division play this Friday (6 PM) at Ventura.  The host Pirates, a 2024 3C2A Playoff team, are one of four members of the WSC North circuit ranked in the pre-season Top 20.
