Cuesta Women's Volleyball picked up a Western State Conference (WSC) win on Halloween against Los Angeles Pierce in Woodland Hills. The Cougars made quick work of the Brahmas by sweeping them (25-10, 25-18, 25-20) for the second time this season. Freshman Setter Emma Watkins (pict) orchestrated the Cougars' attack with a game-high 15 assists, while also landing eight kills of her own. All-WSC Outside Hitter Cayley Brown bombarded the Brahmas' defense with a game-high 13 kills, while also leading the Cougars' defense with another game-high of 10 digs. Brown also broke into the Cougars' Top 10 for Kills in a season. She currently ranks 8th with 281 kills this season but also claimed her 500th career kill for Cuesta College. Brown, who already holds the program's career Service Ace mark (119), is currently 4th at Cuesta with 503 career kills. Cuesta has only four matches remaining in the regular season, so she will not be able to catch former teammate Bailey Woodside's school record of 831. Brown and the Cougars are an even 11-11 on the season, with a 3-6 record in the WSC play.
Cuesta's Spikers remain on the road this week with matches against Moorpark and local rival Allan Hancock. The Cougars travel to play the 8th-ranked Raiders in Moorpark on Wednesday (6 PM), before running down to Santa Maria and facing the rival Bulldogs on Friday (6 PM)
