Women's Volleyball battled through a tough Western State Conference (WSC) schedule and finished 5th in a circuit that boasted four regional semi-final teams, including one CCCAA State Final Four participant. The Cougars compiled a 13-16 overall record on the season, which included a 3-9 mark in the WSC-North. Cuesta battled through the conference and had five players earn all-WSC recognition: including first team selection Emma Watkins (Auburn- pict).
Freshman Setter Emma Watkins joined the Cougars last Spring in time for Beach Volleyball, after Redshirting at San Francisco State during the Fall. She immediately made in impact but was limited to only ten matches in the sand, while setting the program's best winning percentage. Watkins returned to the hardwood this Fall and took over the offense by racking up 717 assists, the most assists by a Cougar since Bree Owczarski set her program record in 1999. Watkins, as a six-footer, also added another dimension for the Cougars at the net. She tied for the team lead with 53 total blocks and was 4th on the team with 131 kills of her own. She also added to her extensive statistical resume by also finishing second on the team with 53 service aces and 211 digs.
Sophomore Outside Hitter Cayley Brown (Woodland) repeated as a member of the all-WSC Second Team, while piling up some of the best numbers in Cuesta History. Brown led the Cougars' offense with 343 kills, #3 all-time at Cuesta, and fell just five touchdowns shy of her own Cuesta record (68) with 63 service aces this season. Brown was always making something happen on the floor and added 11 blocks and a team-high 296 digs on defense. She ends her career with a program record 131 career service aces, while also ranking third all-time for kills (565) and 9th for digs (488)
Sophomore Middle Blocker Hanne Porter (Hamilton City) and Freshman Outside Hitter Kamryn Holland (North Fork) were both accorded all-WSC Honorable Mention. Porter joined Watkins at the net with a team-leading 53 total blocks to create a formidable defensive wall, while also contributing 77 kills and 23 aces on offense. Holland shined as the Cougars' #2 option in their offensive attack. She finished second to Brown with 193 kills and 223.5 total points.
