Cuesta College Athletics Department is proud to announce this month's selections for the Cuesta Athlete of the Month. This distinct honor recognizes two Cuesta College Athletes each month during the school year who have performed to the highest standards in their sport. Our female selection for November is Freshman Setter Emma Watkins
Freshman Setter Emma Watkins joined the Cougars last Spring in time for Beach Volleyball, after Redshirting at San Francisco State during the Fall. She immediately made in impact but was limited to only ten matches in the sand, while setting the program's best winning percentage. Watkins returned to the hardwood this Fall and took over the offense by racking up 717 assists, the most assists by a Cougar since Bree Owczarski set her program record in 1999. Watkins, as a six-footer, also added another dimension for the Cougars at the net. She tied for the team lead with 53 total blocks and was 4th on the team with 131 kills of her own. She also added to her extensive statistical resume by also finishing second on the team with 53 service aces and 211 digs.
Cuesta Volleyball finished with a 14-12 record and in 5th place in the Western State Conference. The Cougars were on the bubble for the post-season, but were left on the board, despite beating the eventual #2-seed during the last week of the season.
