Cuesta Women's Water Polo opened this week with the program's first official victory at Bakersfield College. The Cougars met the fledgling squad on Wednesday and earned a comfortable win, 12-7, over the host Renegades. Cuesta jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first quarter and owned a commanding lead, 9-2 at the intermission. The Cougars and Renegades played even in the third quarter, with both teams netting a trio of goals. Bakersfield added two more unanswered tallies in the fourth quarter to keep the game's outcome respectable. The Cougars picked up their second win against the Western State Conference and are now 1-1 against the circuit, while boasting a 12-6 overall mark and holding down the #5 spot in the State Rankings.
Cuesta shall spend the rest of the week at home preparing to host the Cuesta Invitational. Cuesta shall play three games on Friday and two more on Saturday. The table is set on Friday with the Cougars opening the event against Las Positas (9 AM), before facing the only ranked team at the event, #5 Riverside (1:40), in a game with playoff ramifications. Cuesta ends the tournament's first day with a bonus game in a nightcap versus the Cal Poly Club (5:10). On Saturday, The Cougars open play with a designated Western State Conference game against Los Angeles Valley (10:30), before facing Diablo Valley (3:10) in the tournament finale.
