Cuesta's Poloists Both Fall in Round Two of Playoffs
The men, who were making their 46th straight playoff appearance, opened the weekend against Western State Conference rival Los Angeles Valley and turned the tables on the Monarchs.  Last year, LA Valley, after losing to Cuesta in the conference title game, knocked the Cougars out in the first round of the playoffs, but the Cougars claimed a narrow, 10-9, win on Thursday to send their rival home.  On Friday, Cuesta matched with top-seeded Golden West, who kept their seed with a comfortable win over the Cougars, 20-8.  The men finished their third season under Coach Greg Enloe with a 19-16 record.

The women began the tournament with an unscheduled bye, when #11-seed Palomar forfeited their first-round game, 5-0.  The Cougars gained a little extra practice during their scheduled game time, while staying in Chula Vista and waiting for their free trip to the second round on Friday against the #3-seed Orange Coast.  Unfortunately, nothing was free the next day, as the higher seeded Pirates smothered the Cougars' offense, while jumping out to an 8-0 lead at the intermission.  Cuesta bounced back with four goals in the third quarter, but the Bucs, eventually, ended the Cougars' season, 17-6.  The women's team, which has earned a playoff berth after each of Coach Rachel Shiffrar's seasons at the helm, closed the campaign with a 22-11 overall record.

All-Conference and all-State accolades shall be announced following the post-season.
