2025-26 Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year- AUBREE KOOREN, Wrestling
SAN LUIS OBISPO (May 26, 2026) –In 2003 the Cuesta Athletic Department instituted its first true Athlete of the Year Award. The coaching staff was encouraged to nominate their best athlete for the award and a committee was created that would weigh performance as the highest criteria. Today Cuesta announced its Outstanding Athletes of the Year for the twenty-fourth time. This year's female winner is Wrestling Star Aubree Kooren (Bakersfield).
Sophomore Wrestler Aubree Kooren helped push Women's Wrestling into a varsity sport and then put the program on the map during its inaugural campaign. Kooren, who is technically a sophomore after competing at the club level in 2025, won a 2026 3C2A Title against a loaded 131-division, while helping to lead the Cougars to 8th place as a team in their first official 3C2A State Championship. Kooren, who competed at the club level last season, earned all-SEC First Team and carried that momentum into the State Finals with a 4-0 run to become the Cougars' first 3C2A State Champion. She completed the season with a team-leading 25 wins and helped set a standard for the future of the program. Cuesta Athletics has debuted four sports over the past 30 years, with only Women's Water Polo and Women's Wrestling reaching the post-season in their inaugural campaign.
The Cougars finished 3rd place in the SouthEast Conference and 8th as a team at the 3C2A State Championships.
