Cuesta Women's Cross Country did not open the season at full strength, but that did not deter the Cougars on the course. Cuesta's all freshmen squad landed all four of their harriers among the top dozen finishers of six-team event, while four other teams managed just two runners each among the top leaders. The Cougars were led by Runner-up Isabella Efner (pict), who cleared the course in 22:17.5. Efner trailed only Siena Pignataro of DeAnza, who won the race by more than 40 seconds to lead the Mountain Lions to the team title. Fellow Cougar Rookie Rebekah Waterbury joined Efner in the Top 10 with a 5th place finish (22:56.6), while Sophia Esparza Perez and Serena Trejo crossed in 11th (23:33.6) and 12th (23:36.1) places, respectively.
The Cougars hope to be at full strength next Friday (10 AM) for the Bulldog Invitational, hosted by Allan Hancock, at the Elks Rodeo Grounds in Santa Maria.
